Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr. (March 4, 1877 – July 27, 1963) was born in Paris, Kentucky. He was an African-American inventor and community leader. His most notable inventions included a type of protective respiratory hood (or gas mask), a traffic signal, and a hair-straightening chemical. He is renowned for a heroic rescue in 1916 in which he and three others used the safety hood device he'd developed to save workers trapped within a water intake tunnel, fifty feet beneath Lake Erie.[1] He is also credited as the first African American in Cleveland, Ohio, to own an automobile

On Aug. 13 and 14, 2014, the Supreme Court of Kentucky (SCOKY) will hear oral arguments on Open Records Act request to CHFS (8/13); Family law, child support, emancipation and Indiana law applicability (8/13);  Daubert v. Merrill Dow Pharmaceuticals issue on scientific evidence and testimony in medical malpractice claim (8/13);  statute of limitations tolled when underlying action was dismissed due to improper assignment of legal malpractice claim (8/14);  ex parte communications to alter conditions of release after initial fixing of bail (8/14);  whistleblower claim and the AOC (8/14).
