Governor Fletcher Appoints Tamra Gormley as 14th Judicial Circuit Judge

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed Tamra L. Gormley, of Versailles, as family court judge for the 14th Judicial Circuit, Division 3, which consists of Bourbon, Scott and Woodford Counties.
Gormley is director of the Kentucky Volunteer Lawyer Program. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College and a juris doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Gormley served as assistant commonwealth’s attorney for Fayette County from 1989-1996. She has served as assistant attorney general and director of Victim’s Advocacy for the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General and as director of the Division of Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Services within the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Gormley served as a member of the Kentucky Multidisciplinary Commission on Child Sexual Abuse, the Kentucky Criminal Justice Council, the Governor’s Council on Domestic Violence, the Kentucky Medical Association’s Subcommittee on Domestic Violence, the Kentucky Victims’ Coalition, Kentucky Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the National Association of Attorney Generals Task Force on Youth Violence and Safety and Domestic Violence Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and is married to John Wickliffe Hays.
“I want to thank Governor Fletcher for having the confidence in me to handle this new judicial circuit,” said Gormley. “The citizens of Bourbon, Scott and Woodford Counties are appreciative of the Governor’s efforts to ensure that funding for this new circuit was made available. I look forward to serving as family court judge and will work to provide continuity and a more responsive outcome in court cases tailored to families and children’s needs.”
The judgeship was created by the 2006 General Assembly in an effort to reduce caseload backlog. Gormley will serve until the seat is filled by general election this November.
