This picture is the fifth Fayette County Courthouse which is still standing and located in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. The sixth courthouse was built just up the street with the old courthouse now used as a museum. The statue of John Hunt Morgan on the right of the building as seen in this photo has since been removed. The statue of John C. Breckinridge, youngest and 14th Vice President of the United State was on the left and has since been removed.
The construction of this courthouse began on March 1, 1898 and was completed in 1900 at a cost of $187,181. Several renovations in the mid-20th century destroyed the original interior.
