General John Hunt Morgan known as the ‘Thunderbolt of the Confederacy’ and remembered as the ideal of the romantic Southern cavalryman -- was born June 1, 1825 in Huntsville, Alabama, but is thoroughly identified with his mother’s home state of Kentucky. This marker shows his visit/raid at Paris, Kentucky while taking a little ride through the Kentucky countryside disrupting centers of local government. This historical marker is just outside Bourbon County Court House. Many of these historical markets contain information hidden in plain site, not even noticed by some locals since the markers have been there as long as many can remember. For more information on General Morgan (whose mounted statute is just outside the old court house in Lexington, then go to: http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/biographies/john-hunt-morgan-1.html
