brute.force.attack.imagesGood news.  Bad news.

Bad news, first.

You probably noticed a little problem with our blog site since Wednesday night.  We did too.

The answer is in two parts.  My hosting site announced that the Word Press Blogs hosted by it were the victims of a “brute force attack” which resulted in denials of service etc. problems.  Somebody, somewhere was trying a full frontal assault on the WordPress blogs hosted at PowWeb.com.  This was their response to the problem:

At this time we are still working to fight against the brute-force attacks on WordPress sites. We want to clarify that this is not an issue exclusive to our hosting platform or even vDeck. The hackers have targeted WordPress sites hosted across a multitude of brands, and we are working alongside other partners in the industry to determine how we can resolve the issues we’re all facing. As we continue to focus all of our energy on the attack, we apologize for any additional delays with our support response-times. We can assure you that our staff is working overtime to eliminate the threat while keeping up with as many support tickets as possible. We take pride in delivering reliable and solid support, so again, we apologize to any and all of our customers who may be affected by this delay. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Can you believe while this was going on that I was trying out a different theme at the site which produced some strange results which made me think I screwed up.

Now that’s the bad news.

What’s the good news? I’m backkkkk!!!!!

Nicholson.im.back.imagesI purchased a backup program some months ago to back up my blog files, but it seemed to complicated, I seemed to busy, and yadayadayada.

But, just two weeks earlier, I had uncorked the backup program and put the plan in motion so that by the time of the attack, I had multiple “clean” full site backups and data base backups that were off-site.

Voila.  It took me a few days to figure out how to restore the back up, but I just now did it.  Yes, I’m back.

Thanks to my  lil ol’ BackupBuddy.
